Bio
Best remembered as a member of Don Bradman's 1948 "Invincibles" cricket touring party, Sam Loxton was also a prolific forward for St Kilda during the Second World War. Emerging from Albert Park, he made an immediate impact in the VFL as a dynamic key forward, utilising his natural athleticism and strong hands to average nearly three goals a game. He topped the Saints' goalkicking in 1944 with 52 majors, providing a reliable avenue to goal for a side that often struggled for success. Despite his obvious talent with the football, Loxton eventually prioritised his burgeoning cricket career, retiring from the VFL after the 1946 season to focus on international duties, leaving behind a short but highly efficient record at Moorabbin.
