Bio
A slightly built wingman recruited from Subiaco, Sam McFarlane arrived at North Melbourne with pick 33 in the 1995 National Draft after spending a season on Fremantle's inaugural list without cracking a senior game. He broke into Denis Pagan's powerful lineup for two matches during the club's 1996 premiership campaign, debuting in a win over Geelong at the MCG before making a homecoming appearance against West Coast in Perth. Despite showing promise as a running player, McFarlane’s stint at Arden Street is largely remembered for a brutal incident in the reserves in 1997, where he suffered a shattered jaw from a Barry Hall strike that required reconstructive surgery and the insertion of three titanium plates. Unable to regain his place in the senior side following the injury, he was delisted and returned to the WAFL to continue his career with the Lions.
