Teams

Sam Menegola's career stands as a testament to perseverance, with the West Australian spending five years on AFL lists at Hawthorn and Fremantle without playing a senior game. After being delisted twice and returning to the WAFL to dominate for Subiaco, he was handed a third lifeline by Geelong as a mature-age recruit ahead of the 2016 season. Unlike his previous stints, Menegola seized this opportunity immediately, establishing himself as a physically powerful wingman capable of elite endurance running and consistently impacting the scoreboard.

During his time at the Cattery, he became a vital component of the club's midfield structure, renowned for his ability to accumulate high possession numbers and drift forward to kick goals. His 2020 campaign was particularly outstanding, earning him selection in the All-Australian squad of 40, though he was unlucky to miss the final cut. Despite being a consistent performer during Geelong's premiership window, injury timing proved cruel, and he was forced to watch the 2022 Premiership victory from the sidelines as an emergency. Menegola departed the club at the end of 2023, leaving a legacy as a resilient figure who fought his way from the football wilderness to become a top-tier contributor.
