Bio
Recruited from Gunnedah via the North Shore Bombers in the 2013 Rookie Draft, Sam Naismith was a towering ruckman whose career was defined as much by resilience as it was by talent. After breaking into the Swans' lineup and establishing himself as the club's premier ruck option during the 2016 and 2017 seasons, Naismith's trajectory was derailed by a wretched run of injuries, including three anterior cruciate ligament ruptures during his time in the Harbour City. Despite missing entire seasons and undergoing multiple knee reconstructions, his determination saw him return to the field repeatedly, though he was eventually delisted by Sydney at the end of 2022. After a strong campaign in the VFL with Port Melbourne proved his fitness, he was handed a lifeline by Richmond ahead of the 2024 season to provide experienced ruck depth. However, heartbreak struck again early in his tenure at Punt Road when he suffered a fourth ACL tear, ultimately forcing his retirement and leaving the football world to lament a career cruelly restricted by injury.
