Recruited from Swan Districts, Scott Cummings burst onto the AFL scene with Essendon in 1994, famously booting eight goals on debut to announce himself as a potent scoring threat. A traditional full-forward known for his explosive speed on the lead, strong marking hands, and reliable set-shot conversion, Cummings was a prolific scorer but found his long-term prospects at Windy Hill squeezed by the emergence of Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas. Consequently, he joined Port Adelaide as part of their inaugural squad in 1997, leading the Power's goal kicking in their historic first season before being traded to West Coast in exchange for Jarrad Schofield.

It was in Perth that Cummings reached the pinnacle of his career, winning the 1999 Coleman Medal with a dominant 95-goal season that spearheaded the Eagles' attack. Despite this peak, his later years were hampered by recurring injuries and struggles to maintain elite match fitness, leading to his departure from the Eagles and a final, brief stint with Collingwood in 2002. Although his career was relatively short at 127 games, Cummings holds a unique place in league history as a journeyman who managed to lead the goal kicking list at four different clubs.
