A rare Queensland product in the mid-1980s VFL landscape, Scott McIvor began his career in Victoria with Fitzroy after being recruited from Wilston-Grange. While he established himself quickly at the Lions, the formation of the Brisbane Bears saw him lured home as a high-priority recruitment target for the 1988 inaugural squad. As a local talent with established VFL experience, McIvor became a cornerstone player for the expansion club, providing leadership and stability during their difficult formative years at Carrara.

On the field, McIvor was a classy, balanced midfielder known for his precise left-foot kicking and ability to find space in heavy traffic. His consistency during the club's leanest years was highlighted by a Best and Fairest victory in 1990. He remained a fixture in the side as they relocated to the Gabba and eventually merged with his original club, Fitzroy, ahead of the 1997 season. McIvor managed three final appearances for the newly formed Brisbane Lions, retiring on exactly 200 games as one of the Sunshine State's first genuine AFL success stories.
