Scott McMahon was a dependable medium defender who carved out a commendable career at North Melbourne via the rookie list. Hailing from South Australia's Yorke Peninsula and recruited from Woodville-West Torrens, he was taken with pick 38 in the 2005 Rookie Draft. McMahon served a two-year apprenticeship with the club's VFL affiliates before earning his senior elevation in 2007, where he quickly caught the eye with a Rising Star nomination. While he flashed early potential as a goal-kicker, he ultimately found his home in the backline, becoming a key cog in the Kangaroos' defence under coaches Dean Laidley and Brad Scott.

Known ironically as "Loose" for his disciplined and accountable checking, McMahon was highly rated internally for his versatility and courage. Standing 184cm, he possessed a deceptive ability to play tall when required, often using his strong overhead mark and cool temperament to intercept opposition attacks. His reliability made him a fixture in the best 22 for several seasons, playing a crucial role in stabilising the defence during the club's transition years. McMahon was delisted at the conclusion of the 2015 season, departing Arden Street as a respected 124-game player who consistently put the team first.
