Bio
Selected with pick 5 in the 2005 National Draft, Scott Pendlebury arrived at Collingwood with a background that became part of football folklore. A former scholarship holder at the Australian Institute of Sport for basketball, he chose football late in his junior career, gifting the Magpies one of the most composed midfielders in history. Unlike players who rely on raw speed, Pendlebury established himself through elite spatial awareness and an innate ability to find space in heavy traffic, appearing to have more time than those around him to execute precise disposal on his preferred left foot.
A central figure in Collingwood's 2010 premiership triumph, where he was awarded the Norm Smith Medal, he evolved from a silky outside mover into a consistent clearance winner who maintained an elite standard over two decades. His excellence was recognised with five Copeland Trophies and six All-Australian selections. Pendlebury served as club captain for nine seasons, steering the side through a rebuilding phase before handing the leadership reins to Darcy Moore, though he remained a critical on-field general during the Magpies' premiership success in 2023.
