Teams

Recruited from the Sandringham Dragons with pick 66 in the 2000 National Draft, Scott Thornton was a tall defender whose career was defined by resilience in the face of significant health challenges. While initially used as a utility, he found his niche in the backline, enjoying his best campaign in 2005 when he played all 22 games and finished equal fifth in the Doig Medal. However, his continuity was frequently disrupted by injuries and a difficult battle with Crohn's disease, a chronic inflammatory bowel condition diagnosed early in his career that required strict lifestyle management. Despite showing promise as a running defender who could match up on both talls and smalls, he struggled to stay on the park consistently in his later years. Thornton eventually retired in the middle of the 2010 season after breaking his leg while playing for WAFL affiliate South Fremantle, leaving the game as a respected clubman who had also featured in the Bulldogs' 2009 premiership side.
