Bio
Born in Sydney but raised in Ireland, Setanta O'hAilpin was recruited by Carlton from County Cork as an international rookie, bringing raw athleticism and a fiery competitive streak to the AFL. While initially trialled as a key defender, the former hurler eventually settled into a role as a mobile forward and backup ruckman, becoming a cult figure at Princes Park due to his aggression and unique sporting background. His tenure at the Blues was occasionally overshadowed by disciplinary issues, most notably a high-profile training altercation with teammate Cameron Cloke. After being delisted by Carlton at the end of 2011, O'hAilpin was thrown a lifeline by Greater Western Sydney, who sought his experienced body to protect their developing list; although an ACL injury ruined his debut season with the Giants, he returned in 2013 to boot five goals against Port Adelaide before concluding his cross-code career.
