Bio
A dual-sport athlete with a distinctive sporting journey, Shane Crothers is best remembered as one of the rare individuals to compete in both the AFL and the NBL. Originally a local recruit from Grovedale, the 198cm ruckman initially failed to break into Geelong's senior side and pivoted to professional basketball, playing two seasons for the Geelong Supercats alongside Shane Heal. He was offered a second chance at Kardinia Park via the 1993 Pre-Season Draft, eventually making his debut in 1994 as a depth ruckman for Malcolm Blight’s high-flying squad. While he managed only four senior games during the club's strong 1994-1995 era, Crothers carved out a successful post-AFL career in South Australia, winning a SANFL premiership with Port Adelaide in 1996 before returning to the hardwood with the West Adelaide Bearcats.
