Bio
Recruited from North Adelaide with pick 26 in the 2006 National Draft, Shane Edwards arrived at Richmond as a slight teenager who took time to find his niche at the elite level. Enduring the Tigers' lean years during the late 2000s, he eventually developed into a linchpin of the club's resurgence under Damien Hardwick. While he rarely dominated the raw statistical columns, Edwards established himself as one of the most intelligent and creative users of the ball in the competition, operating primarily as a high-half forward who could pinch-hit in the midfield.
Renowned for his lightning-quick hands and elite spatial awareness, Edwards became the ultimate connector in Richmond's premiership-winning system. His ability to execute precise handballs in heavy traffic unlocked scoring chains that others could not see, earning him All-Australian honours in 2018. He was often the player who made the kick before the goal, valuing score involvements and team fluidity over individual accolades, and his instinctive evasiveness made him difficult to tackle in congestion.
