Bio
A powerfully built full-forward, Shane Fell took a circuitous route to the AFL that saw him dominate Tasmanian football before making a brief but explosive impact in Sydney. Originally listed by Geelong after progressing through the Footscray Under-19s, he failed to break into the Cats' senior lineup and moved to Glenorchy, where he forced his way back onto the radar by booting a league-leading 114 goals in the 1989 TFL season. Drafted by the Swans for the 1990 season, Fell made a stunning entrance to the elite level, kicking five goals on debut against Carlton to equal the club record for a first-game player. He was an old-fashioned key forward known for his strong hands and presence in the goal square, a trait best exemplified when he booted a career-high six goals against his former club Geelong at the SCG. Despite a healthy return of two goals a game, his AFL career was limited to that solitary season before he returned to Tasmanian football.
