Family

Recruited from Subiaco as a pre-draft concession selection for Fremantle's inaugural squad, Shane Parker became the definition of dependability during the club's often-turbulent formative years. While the Dockers struggled for consistency in their first decade, Parker established himself as a stoic pillar in the backline, rarely beaten and never flustered. He was the antithesis of the modern, flashy rebounding defender; instead, he was a traditional lockdown specialist who wore opponents like a glove, renowned for his disciplined checking and ability to spoil contests against forwards of any size.

Parker’s value to the team was immense, underlined by his podium finishes in the Doig Medal on three occasions, including runner-up placings in 1997 and 2005. His quiet, unassuming nature off the field belied a fierce competitive streak that saw him represent Western Australia in State of Origin football three times. In 2005, he etched his name into history as the first Fremantle player to reach the 200-game milestone, eventually retiring in 2007 as the club’s games record holder—a testament to his durability and importance as a foundation block of the football club.
