Bio
Hailing from Angaston in South Australia's Barossa Valley, Shannon Hurn arrived at West Coast via pick 13 in the 2005 National Draft. Before committing fully to football, he was a highly touted dual-sport prospect with a promising future in cricket, having captained South Australia at under-age level and held a rookie contract with the Redbacks. This sporting background seemed to translate into his on-field demeanour, where his composure and discipline allowed him to quickly establish himself as a permanent fixture in the Eagles' backline.
Throughout his career, Hurn was renowned for his elite distribution by foot. Operating as a general in defence, his lethal right boot became one of West Coast's most significant weapons, allowing the team to clear defensive zones with piercing depth and accuracy. While his "quarterback" style of rebounding was his trademark, he was also a formidable defensive stopper. Physically strong and unyielding in the contest, he was rarely beaten one-on-one and provided a steadying influence that organised the team's defensive structures for nearly two decades.
