Bio
Originally recruited by Collingwood via the rookie draft from Perth, Sharrod Wellingham developed into a damaging line-breaking midfielder known for his pace and silky disposal. He became an integral part of the Magpies' rotation during their peak years, culminating in a premiership medallion in 2010 where his influence in the Grand Final Replay was significant. After 92 games in black and white, Wellingham requested a trade home to Western Australia at the end of 2012, joining West Coast in exchange for a first-round selection.
His tenure at the Eagles began slowly, hampered by injuries and freak accidents, including an ankle injury sustained on a trampoline that disrupted his first pre-season. While he initially struggled to recapture his best midfield form, Wellingham later reinvented himself as a rebounding defender. His composure and elite foot skills proved vital in West Coast's backline during their 2015 campaign, which saw him play in his second Grand Final, albeit in a loss to Hawthorn. He remained with the Eagles until he was delisted following the 2017 season, concluding his career as a versatile player who experienced the highs of a flag and a successful positional transformation.
