Bio
Drafted by Carlton with pick 19 in the 2006 National Draft from the North Ballarat Rebels, Shaun Grigg began his career at Princes Park where he struggled to cement a permanent inside midfield spot, often finding himself deployed in tagging roles. Seeking greater opportunity, he requested a trade to Richmond at the end of 2010 in a direct swap for Andrew Collins, a deal that would ultimately weigh heavily in the Tigers' favour as Grigg became a consistent accumulator and a key link-up player between the arcs.
While he was a reliable ball-winner throughout his time at Punt Road, Grigg's legacy was defined by his tactical adaptability during Richmond's drought-breaking 2017 premiership campaign. In a strategic shift, the midfielder was deployed as a makeshift backup ruckman to support Toby Nankervis, acting as an extra rover at stoppages to fuel the Tigers' high-pressure small-ball game. His commitment to the team-first ethos was further cemented in 2019 when he retired mid-season to open up a list spot, a decision that allowed the club to recruit Marlion Pickett ahead of their ensuing flag run.
