Bio
Recruited from Mt Gravatt with pick 17 in the 2006 National Draft, Shaun Hampson was an athletic Queenslander who entered the AFL system with a soccer background and significant raw potential. Standing 201cm, he developed into a ruckman capable of dominance at centre bounces due to his elite vertical leap, though his contested marking around the ground remained a point of inconsistency. After seven seasons at Carlton where he constantly battled for the primary ruck mantle against Matthew Kreuzer and Robbie Warnock, Hampson was traded to Richmond at the end of 2013 in search of a fresh start. He played his best football for the Tigers in 2016 as the number one ruck, but the subsequent arrival of Toby Nankervis and a debilitating chronic back condition limited his output in his final seasons. He retired in 2018 agonisingly short of the 100-game milestone and without featuring in the club's premiership breakthrough.
