Bio
Drafted by Adelaide with pick 28 in the 2008 National Draft, Shaun McKernan entered the league carrying the weight of expectation as the younger brother of North Melbourne champion Corey McKernan. A versatile key position prospect, he struggled to command a regular spot in the Crows' senior side and was delisted following the 2014 season. Essendon offered him a lifeline via the Rookie Draft, where he became a valuable depth player during the club's difficult period following the supplements saga. McKernan played his most consistent football as a Bomber, utilizing his strong vertical leap and long kicking to fill voids in both the ruck and forward line when injuries struck key personnel like Joe Daniher. He concluded his career with a brief stint at St Kilda in 2021 after being signed as a pre-season supplemental selection to provide tall cover, retiring as a resilient journeyman who managed 91 games across three clubs.
