Bio
Recruited from West Adelaide, Shaun Rehn established himself as the premier ruckman of the 1990s and a central pillar in the Adelaide Crows' dual premiership success. Standing 205cm, Rehn redefined the role with his superior football IQ and mobility, effectively acting as an extra midfielder once the ball hit the ground. His deft tap work fed the Crows' celebrated engine room, earning him All-Australian selection in 1994 and 1998, as well as the Malcolm Blight Medal in 1994. His on-field dominance was all the more impressive given his battle with chronic injuries, most notably a controversial ACL tear caused by a rubber cricket pitch insert at the Gabba in 1995. His resilience to return from three knee reconstructions to anchor the ruck in the 1997 and 1998 Grand Final victories remains a defining chapter of the club's history.
Following the 2000 season, Rehn departed Adelaide after a deterioration in his relationship with coach Gary Ayres regarding contract terms and player management. He requested a trade to Hawthorn to reunite with former teammate and then-coach Peter Schwab. While his time at Glenferrie Oval was brief, spanning just two seasons, his presence provided crucial guidance to a developing list. He retired at the end of 2002, securing his legacy as one of South Australia's greatest football exports and an eventual inductee into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
