Recruited from West Adelaide, Shayne Breuer made an immediate impact at Geelong after being selected in the 1993 National Draft. He quickly established himself as a clever half-forward, featuring in the Cats' losing Grand Final sides of 1994 and 1995. Despite his standing at Geelong, the opportunity to return to South Australia saw him join Port Adelaide for their inaugural AFL season in 1997, bringing valuable finals experience to the fledgling list.

Breuer secured a unique place in history by kicking Port Adelaide's first-ever AFL goal during their debut match against Collingwood at the MCG. Known for his creativity and sharp goal sense, he remained a consistent contributor during the Power's first two seasons. However, his opportunities diminished in 1999, and he was delisted at the end of that season as the club transitioned into a new era under Mark Williams, finishing his career with 125 games across two states.
