Bio
Recruited from the Southern Stingrays with pick 61 in the 1993 National Draft, Shayne Smith was a tall key forward who found opportunities scarce during his brief stint with the Sydney Swans. He managed just four senior games in the 1994 season before falling out of the AFL system, but he subsequently carved out a formidable legacy in the VFL as a dominant spearhead for Springvale. A prolific scorer at state level, Smith became a Scorpions legend by booting a club-record 470 goals, famously topping the league's goalkicking table with century-hauls in both 1997 and 1998. While he was unable to secure a long-term spot at the elite level, his post-AFL career established him as one of the most dangerous forwards in Victorian state football during the late 1990s.
