Bio
Recruited from Sandy Bay in Tasmania, Shayne Stevenson entered the league with Fitzroy after being selected at pick 37 in the 1989 National Draft. His tenure at the Lions proved difficult, as he managed just 11 senior games over three seasons and never featured in a winning side before being delisted. Handed a lifeline by Hawthorn in the 1994 Pre-Season Draft, the quick, long-kicking left-footer established himself as a versatile utility capable of playing as a small forward, defender, or on-baller. He is best remembered by Hawks fans for a display of grit against Sydney at Waverley Park in 1995; despite suffering a broken ankle and unable to come off the ground due to exhausted interchanges, he hobbled to the forward pocket and crumbed a goal before being carried from the field. Stevenson played 34 games in brown and gold before returning to his home state, where he later captained the Southern Cats and won a premiership with Glenorchy.
