Stats
Bio
Recruited from VFA club Sandringham after an initial zoning dispute with South Melbourne, Sid Dockendorff was a creative half-forward and wingman known for his courageous willingness to burrow in for the contested ball. His tenure at Punt Road was dramatically derailed in 1933 when a severe back injury saw him play a semi-final under heavy painkillers before collapsing and being told he would never play again. Defying medical predictions after a season on the sidelines, he crossed to Footscray in 1935 where his leadership qualities immediately shone through. Despite battling a fragile body that limited his on-field appearances, he earned immense respect at the Western Oval, rising to captain the club in 1937 before his injuries ultimately forced him to hang up the boots.
