Stats
Bio
Recruited from local side Essendon United, Sid Silk served a diligent apprenticeship in the reserves before earning his senior call-up under the most intense pressure imaginable—a debut in the 1941 Preliminary Final. Standing at 182cm, Silk initially trained as a winger but ultimately found his best football as a disciplined backman and defensive stopper, often tasked with tagging dangerous opposition playmakers out of the game. While he unfortunately missed selection for the 1941 Grand Final the following week, he secured his place in club history a year later as the 19th man in the Bombers' 1942 Premiership side. His VFL career concluded after four seasons during the war years, after which he crossed to the VFA to play for Brunswick and later served as an association umpire.
