Bio
Hailing from a sporting family that also produced Olympic gold medalist rower David Crawshay, Simon Crawshay was selected by Hawthorn with the prestigious third pick in the 1992 National Draft. A towering 200cm ruckman, he was recruited to shore up the Hawks' big-man stocks but found the transition from junior football to the elite level difficult, often struggling to match the physicality of seasoned opponents. Consequently, he spent much of his three-year tenure on the fringe of selection, managing just 19 senior appearances as he fought to cement a regular spot in the lineup. He was delisted at the conclusion of the 1996 season, remaining a notable example of the unpredictability of the draft, and later continued his career in the SANFL.
