Bio
Recruited from Melbourne Grammar, Simon Deacon was a solidly built utility who briefly featured for St Kilda during the mid-1970s. Standing 183cm, he possessed the frame to compete as a flanker or defensive option but found opportunities scarce in a Saints lineup that was drifting away from its golden era. He made his VFL debut against Carlton late in the 1974 season, managing just one further senior appearance the following year before his time at Moorabbin concluded. Deacon’s short career was typical of the transitional depth players of the period, stepping in to fill gaps as the club attempted to regenerate its list following the departure of its premiership stars.
