Recruited from Echuca with pick 4 in the 1986 National Draft, Simon Eishold was a versatile utility capable of playing in the midfield or across half-forward. Although he was a consistent figure during Melbourne's late-1980s resurgence, his time at the club is often viewed through the lens of the 1987 Preliminary Final against Hawthorn, where he took a late mark inside 50 but played on and missed the target shortly before the decisive Gary Buckenara free kick. Eishold bounced back to feature in the 1988 Grand Final side, but chronic knee issues eventually stalled his progress and limited his continuity. After being delisted by the Demons following the 1992 season, he was offered a lifeline by Richmond via the Pre-Season Draft but added just five games to his tally before retiring.
