Bio
Recruited initially as a father-son selection to Geelong, where his father Gary had played, Simon Fletcher failed to break into the Cats' senior side before being delisted. He found a second home at Carlton via the pre-season draft, where he flourished as a workmanlike midfielder capable of playing tagging roles or finding space on a wing. A key contributor during the Blues' 1999 campaign—including the famous Preliminary Final upset over Essendon—Fletcher relied on his elite endurance and running capacity to accumulate possessions across half-back and through the centre. However, he became a casualty of Carlton's list overhaul following the club's salary cap breaches, leading to a move to Richmond in 2004. He managed just six appearances for the Tigers as a mature-age recruit before concluding his 90-game career.
