Bio

1 revision

Recruited from South Adelaide, Simon Goodwin entered the AFL via the 1996 Pre-season Draft, proving to be one of the most significant bargains in the club's history. He made an immediate impact, playing a pivotal role as a composed half-back flanker during Adelaide's back-to-back premiership triumphs in 1997 and 1998. While he established his reputation in defence, his elite aerobic capacity and damaging left foot eventually saw him transition permanently into the midfield, where he became one of the competition's most consistent and classy ball-winners.

Goodwin's ability to read the play and his precise distribution earned him five All-Australian selections and three Malcolm Blight Medals as the club's best and fairest. He assumed the captaincy in 2008, leading the side with distinction during a transitional period following the departure of Mark Ricciuto. A durable and influential leader, Goodwin retired in 2010 as one of the Crows' most decorated servants, later successfully transitioning into senior coaching.
