Bio
Recruited from Western Districts in the QAFL as a zone selection, Simon Luhrs was a key defender who played a brief but memorable role during the Brisbane Bears' formative years. Standing 195cm, he was primarily deployed as a full-back capable of pinch-hitting in the ruck, eventually breaking into the senior side late in the 1991 season. While he only managed 12 senior games for the club, 1991 proved to be a standout year for the Queenslander; he was a member of the Bears' Reserves premiership side and famously represented Queensland in their historic State of Origin victory over Victoria at the Gabba. After leaving Brisbane, Luhrs moved to the SANFL to play for Central District, where his strong form earned him a lifeline from Hawthorn in the 1994 Mid-Season Draft, though he did not add to his senior game tally while at Glenferrie.
