Bio
Drafted from the Northern Knights with pick 10 in the 1995 National Draft, Simon Prestigiacomo evolved into one of the most respected lockdown defenders in the competition. Throughout his time at Collingwood, he served as the backbone of the Magpies' defence, renowned for his ability to completely blanket key forwards while gathering minimal possessions himself. His game was built on discipline and concentration rather than flair, a style that saw him kick just three goals over a career spanning 15 seasons.
Despite his on-field reliability, Prestigiacomo's legacy is inextricably linked to a heartbreaking but noble decision made during the 2010 finals series. After battling injuries late in his final season, he famously declared himself unfit to play in the Grand Final, voluntarily withdrawing from the selected side to ensure the team was not compromised. While this cost him a premiership medal when Collingwood eventually triumphed, his integrity and selflessness ensured his standing as a revered figure within the club.
