Bio
Recruited from the Coburg Juniors, Simon Roberts was a local product who earned a brief trial with Carlton during the club’s formative years in the VFL. Arriving at Princes Park as a 24-year-old in 1901, he joined a Blues outfit that was struggling to establish itself in the new competition and languishing near the bottom of the ladder. Roberts broke into the senior side late in the season, making his debut in Round 12 against South Melbourne, but found the step up to league football difficult. He managed just three consecutive appearances without troubling the scorers before losing his place in the side. His career at the elite level was fleeting, and his life was tragically cut short just seven years later when he passed away in 1908 at the age of 31.
