Bio
Recruited from the Port Adelaide Magpies as a teenage sensation, Simon Tregenza was a foundation player for the Adelaide Crows who quickly became the face of the club's youth in its inaugural 1991 season. Operating primarily as a wingman, Tregenza was renowned for his blistering pace, exceptional balance, and ability to break lines, making him a damaging asset during the Crows' rise to finals contention in 1993. His early career trajectory suggested he would become one of the competition's elite midfielders, and he was a vital component of the side's engine room during their formative years.
However, Tregenza's career is often remembered for the cruel timing of persistent injuries that derailed his prime. A series of chronic soft-tissue issues, particularly hamstring strains, severely limited his continuity during the mid-1990s and ultimately cost him a place in the club's historic 1997 and 1998 premiership sides. Although he fought his way back into the senior team under Malcolm Blight for a final campaign in 1999, the recurring injuries forced him into retirement at age 28. He left the game as a member of the 100-game club, remembered as one of South Australia's most naturally gifted talents of the decade who was denied the ultimate success by a fragile body.
