Bio
Recruited from Ringwood, Stan Beal was a tall prospect whose VFL career was significantly delayed by global conflict. His prime footballing years were consumed by World War II, during which he served as a gunner in the Australian Army with active duty in Papua New Guinea. Consequently, Beal did not make his senior debut for the Bulldogs until 1952, arriving at the Western Oval as a 28-year-old mature-age recruit. Standing 185cm—a considerable height for the era—he managed seven senior games across two seasons, primarily filling key defensive or relief roles without registering a goal. His brief stint at the top level serves as a reminder of the generation whose sporting potential was sacrificed for the war effort, though he remained a supporter of the club until his passing in 2017 at the age of 92.
