Recruited from local side West Richmond, Stan Brett took a circuitous route to the VFL that included a pre-season trial with Melbourne and a solid tenure in the VFA with Camberwell. After enduring a frustrated wait for a clearance to Punt Road, he finally broke into the Richmond senior lineup in Round 5 of the 1938 season. Proving to be a handy mid-season inclusion, Brett operated as a forward option and contributed five goals across nine games, featuring in seven victories as the Tigers solidified a finals berth. Despite his role in the team's mid-year success, he lost his spot late in the season and was unable to force his way back into the side, eventually returning to Camberwell the following year.
