Bio
Originally from Kensington, "Snowy" Lawler was a prolific full-forward whose VFL career was curtailed by administrative red tape and injury. He made an electrifying start for South Melbourne in 1930, booting four goals on debut against Fitzroy, but was controversially disqualified the following week when it was discovered he lacked the necessary residential qualifications. After a knee injury ruined his 1931 campaign, Lawler moved to Essendon in 1933 where he continued his goal-kicking heroics, bagging four majors against his old side in his first game for the Dons. Although he averaged three goals a game in the seniors and kicked a staggering 91 goals in the reserves that year, he could not secure a regular senior berth and eventually departed for Williamstown, where he became one of the VFA's most dangerous forwards.
