Bio
A dental student recruited from Wesley College, Stan Martin was a dashing wingman for University during the club's final chapters in the VFL. Renowned for his pace and clever ball use, he was widely considered one of the era's finest exponents of the running drop-kick, a skill that made him a genuine crowd favourite even as the amateur side struggled against professional opposition. He remained a consistent figure in the lineup until the "Shop" withdrew from the league at the end of 1914, resisting the lure of other clubs to focus on his studies and subsequent military service. Martin's life and career were cut tragically short by the Great War; after enlisting in 1915 and serving as a bayonet instructor, he was killed in action at Bullecourt in 1917 at the age of 27.
