Bio
A foundation member of Richmond’s inaugural VFL squad, Stan O'Connell earned his place in history as one of the first men to represent the Tigers in the top flight. Making his debut as a 25-year-old in Round 3, 1908 against Fitzroy, he was utilised primarily as a forward option capable of contributing to the scoreline in a low-scoring era. He managed to boot three goals across his five senior appearances, demonstrating he knew the way to the sticks, but struggled to cement a permanent spot in the starting 18 as the club adjusted to the higher standard of competition. O'Connell’s career was ultimately restricted to that single historic season, and tragically, he passed away prematurely just over a decade later at the age of 37.
