Bio
Recruited from Devon in the Gippsland region, Stan O'Neill was a rugged half-back whose VFL career was defined by a significant battle against injury. He was originally selected to make his debut for South Melbourne in the opening round of the 1954 season, but a severe ankle fracture sustained just prior to the match cruelly forced him to the sidelines. Displaying remarkable resilience, O'Neill spent three years rehabilitating before finally fighting his way back into the senior side in 1957. He managed 11 games and four goals in his solitary season of league football, leaving a legacy of persistence rather than longevity.
