Bio
Arriving at Richmond as a touted mature-age recruit from Tasmania, Stan Ryan was established as arguably the premier ruckman in the Apple Isle before crossing Bass Strait. A rugged and versatile follower who could also hold down key position posts at either end of the ground, he was known for his strength, long kicking, and surprising pace for a big man. Ryan’s VFL tenure was restricted to a single impactful season in 1929 where he slotted directly into the senior side, playing 14 games and featuring in the Tigers’ Grand Final loss to Collingwood. He returned to Tasmania the following year to continue his playing career with Launceston and North Hobart, later maintaining his link to Punt Road as a recruiting officer and serving as president of the North Hobart Football Club.
