Bio
Arriving at Punt Road with a formidable VFA reputation, Stan Tomlins was a versatile key position player whose brief VFL career hinted at significant potential. A premiership player and J.J. Liston Trophy winner at Sandringham, he crossed to Richmond without a clearance in 1948 and immediately made an impact as a powerful forward. Known for his tremendous long kicking and ability to swing between centre half-back and the forward line, Tomlins booted 23 goals in just 12 games, including a five-goal haul against Melbourne and consecutive four-goal bags early in the season. However, his time at the top level was cut short by a chronic shoulder injury that forced his premature retirement at just 24. He remained involved in the game long after his playing days, carving out a respected second career as a country football umpire throughout the 1960s.
