Bio
Recruited from Moe in Gippsland, Stephen Boyle was a promising half-forward flanker whose VFL career was tragically cut short after just six games. Bursting onto the scene in 1972, he displayed a natural instinct for the goals, booting at least one major in every senior appearance. However, his football journey ended abruptly during a clash against St Kilda at the Western Oval, where a collision with Saints defender Kevin "Cowboy" Neale resulted in severe bleeding behind his right eye. Boyle permanently lost sight in the eye, forcing him into premature retirement at just 18 years of age. He is the father of former Hawthorn forward Tim Boyle.
