Bio
Recruited from Turvey Park in the Riverina, Stephen Eather was a tall key position prospect who joined South Melbourne via their country zone during the club's tumultuous final years in Victoria. Standing 191cm, he was capable of playing as a key defender or pinch-hitting in the ruck, debuting as a 19-year-old in 1980. Despite his height and athleticism, Eather struggled to cement a regular spot in the senior lineup, managing just five games across two seasons at the Lakeside Oval before the Swans relocated to Sydney. He was handed a VFL lifeline by Richmond in 1984, but unable to crack the Tigers' senior side, he was restricted to four appearances in the reserves before his time at the elite level concluded.
