Bio
Recruited from South Fremantle, Stephen Jurica was a powerfully built key forward who briefly lit up the forward line for Richmond in the mid-1990s. Drafted as a teenager, he was called upon to fill the void left by an injured Matthew Richardson in 1995, using his imposing frame to provide a strong contest in the air. He enjoyed a purple patch in his debut season that generated significant hype, notably booting four goals on Carlton champion Stephen Silvagni and snagging five majors in a famous drawn match against Essendon. Despite earning a Rising Star nomination and the nickname "Jurassic" from commentators, injuries and inconsistent form stifled his progress over the following seasons. He was delisted by the Tigers and briefly picked up by Hawthorn without adding to his game tally, eventually moving to the VFL where he won a best and fairest with North Ballarat.
