Stats
Bio
Stephen Kenna was a diminutive but tenacious midfielder whose career was defined by elite state-league performance and a persistence that earned him two separate chances at AFL level. A Queensland native, he spent the 2000 season on the Brisbane Lions' rookie list without breaking into the senior side before moving to Victoria to play for the Box Hill Hawks. His prolific ball-winning form in the VFL caught the eye of Carlton recruiters, who selected him with pick 75 in the 2003 National Draft, handing him a lifeline at the relatively mature age of 22. Standing just 170cm, Kenna was an energetic rover and small forward who managed five senior games for the Blues in 2004, kicking three goals, but his progress was continuously hampered by persistent back injuries. Following his delisting, he cemented his status as a lower-level star, finishing runner-up in the Magarey Medal with South Adelaide before returning to Box Hill to captain the club.
