Bio
Recruited from Daylesford in the Victorian goldfields, Stephen Nankervis was a lightly built forward who holds the distinction of being one of the earliest players to carry the famous Nankervis name at Geelong. Standing 175cm but weighing only 67kg, he lacked the physical presence to dominate contests but showed glimpses of ability near the sticks, booting two goals across his four senior appearances during the 1912 and 1913 VFL seasons. He struggled to cement a spot in the senior side at Corio Oval and his top-level career was over almost as soon as it began, eventually leaving the VFL system after just two years. Despite his brief tenure on the field, Nankervis holds a unique place in history for his longevity; he lived to the age of 99 before passing away in 1989, serving as one of the club's last surviving links to the pre-WWI era of the game.
