Bio
Recruited from St Kevin's College, Stephen Power developed into a reliable and versatile servant for Footscray across a career that spanned the entire 1970s. While he was capable of filling key defensive posts when required, Power played his best football as a utility stationed on the wing or a half-back flank. His durability and consistent ball-winning ability saw him become a regular fixture in the senior lineup shortly after his debut in 1969, providing much-needed stability to the Bulldogs' defence during a volatile era for the club.
Power's standing at the Western Oval peaked during the club's competitive resurgence in the mid-1970s. He was an integral part of the side that broke a long finals drought in 1974, a standout season in which he finished runner-up in the Best and Fairest award behind club legend Gary Dempsey. He featured in another finals campaign in 1976 and remained a first-choice player until his retirement in 1979. With 177 games to his name, Power departed as a highly respected one-club player and a life member of the Bulldogs.
