Recruited from Cooee on Tasmania's north-west coast, Steve Beaumont was a tough, nuggety rover and small forward who arrived at Windy Hill with a reputation for prolific goalkicking. A fiery competitor who was never afraid to throw his weight around, he made an immediate impact with his evasive skills and eye for the goals, notably booting a bag of five against Carlton early in his tenure. However, he is perhaps best remembered by the Bomber faithful for his involvement in the infamous "Battle of Windy Hill" brawl against the Blues in 1975, later joking that he was one of the few players on the ground to escape a report. While he struggled at times to adjust to the relentless tempo of VFL football, Beaumont returned to the Apple Isle in 1977 where he cemented his legacy as a local legend, eventually captain-coaching Cooee and kicking a club-record 147 goals in a single season before his induction into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
