Bio
Recruited from the unique Victoria Markets mid-week competition, Steve Bloomer was a country boy from Yea who embarked on a brief but eventful journeyman career through the VFL during the 1930s. He showed early promise as a forward at North Melbourne, managing four goals in seven games during his debut season, but sought a fresh start at Carlton the following year. His time at Princes Park was marred by a severe ruptured kidney sustained in a reserves match, an injury that hospitalised him and significantly restricted his senior opportunities to just three appearances in 1933. After a final solitary game for Essendon in 1934, Bloomer left the league to find greater stability in the VFA with Port Melbourne, where he became a regular fixture for five seasons before passing away prematurely at the age of 33.
